The Basis of Faith

And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus:
2 Timothy 3:15

There is one God, who exists eternally in three distinct, but equal persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. God the Father is the Almighty Creator and sustainer of all things. He is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent. He hates evil and gave us the Ten Commandments as His standard of perfection.

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

Holy Bible

The Lord Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin. He lived a sinless life in obedience to the Father. He taught with authority and all His words are true. On the cross, He died in the place of His people, bearing God’s punishment for their sin, redeeming them by His blood. He rose from the dead and ascended into heaven, where He is exalted Lord of all. He intercedes for His people in the presence of the Father.

John 1:1-3 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

The Holy Spirit has been sent from heaven to glorify Christ and to apply His work of salvation. He convicts sinners, imparts spiritual life and gives a true understanding of the Bible. He indwells all believers, brings assurance of salvation and produces increasing likeness to Christ. He builds up the Church and empowers its members for service.

John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak; and he will shew you things to come.

All men and women, being created in the image of God, have inherent and equal dignity and worth. Their greatest purpose is to obey, worship and love God. As a result of Adam and Eve’s sin, every aspect of human nature has been corrupted and all men and women are without spiritual life, guilty sinners and against God. Every person is under the condemnation of God and needs to be born again, forgiven and reconciled to God in order to be saved and thus, to know and please Him.

Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Salvation is entirely a work of God’s grace and cannot be earned or deserved. It has been accomplished by the Lord Jesus, in laying down His sinless life on the cross and thus, satisfying the demands of His Holy Father and is proclaimed to all in the gospel. God, in His love, forgives sinners whom He calls, granting them repentance and faith. All who believe in Christ are justified by faith alone, and adopted into the family of God.

1 Timothy 1:15 Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.

Holy Bible

Baptism and the Lord’s Supper have been given to the Church by Christ, as visible signs of the inward work of the gospel. Baptism is a symbol of union with Christ, the cleansing from sin, wrought by faith in the work of Christ on the cross, but does not itself impart spiritual life.

Acts 2:38 Repent, and be baptised every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.

Holy Bible

The Lord’s Supper is a regular commemoration of Christ’s atoning work, offered once and for all His people and involves no change in the bread and wine, ie these symbols don’t become the actual body and blood of Christ in a literal sense, but are a remembrance of Christ’s body which was broken and blood which was shed on the cross. All its blessings are and can only be received by faith.

1 Corinthians 11:26 For as often as yet eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.

The full inspiration of the Holy Scriptures, their authority and sufficiency as not only containing, but being in themselves, the inerrant Word of God; the reliability of the New Testament in its testimony to the Character and Authorship of the Old Testament; and the need of the teaching of the Holy Spirit to a true and spiritual understanding of the whole; the Holy Scriptures both in the original Hebrew and Greek are accepted as inspired and authoritative and the Authorised Version as being the most exact translation at this time.

II Timothy 3:16 and 17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

The universal Church is the body of which Christ is the head and to which all who are saved belong. It is made visible through local churches, which are congregations of believers who are committed to God and each other, for the worship of God, the preaching of the Word of God, administering Baptism and the Lord’s Supper, for evangelism and other forms of Biblical service. According to the Bible, the local Church is placed by God under the leadership of a Pastor/Elder, a man who will guide the Church by preaching, teaching and exercising pastoral care and discipline.

Ephesians 1:22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church.
Ephesians 2:20-22 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; in whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: in whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

The Lord Jesus Christ will return again in glory. He will raise the dead and judge the world in righteousness. The unsaved will be sent to hell for eternal punishment and the saved will be welcomed into a life of eternal joy, in fellowship with God in heaven. God will make all things new and will be glorified forever.

Matthew 24:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
